A very pretty Canebrake Rattlesnake(Crotalus horridus atricaudatus)heads for the pool to cool off in the outdoor venomous enclosure at the Edisto Island Serpentarium on Edisto Island, SC.
The concrete is painted blue, although a really nice filtration system keeps the water crystal-clear. It's actually a moat that surrounds an island on which there are live trees and native shrubs, hollow logs and other assorted places for snakes to hang out, a slice of their natural environment. The moat is enclosed by a smooth concrete wall, with is about six feet high from the inside.
